Caves Springs Community Church & Cemetery was founded by William
B. Caves in the late 1860's or early 1870's. Mr. Caves, a wagon
master, led an imigrant train to Texas. They camped near some
springs for a few-days rest. They expiered-the area, found good
hunting and water and decided it was the place they had been
searching for.
Mr. Caves obtained a land grant large enough for all the people on
the wagon train. The people held a meeting and voted to let Mr.
Cayes have the land surrounding the springs, and he gave 2 acres
for a church-and cemetery, The people honored Mr. Caves by naming
the community "Caves Sprrngs". A large iron ore rock is at the
head of their graves, which was hand carved by S. S. Johnson and
J. R. Reed.
Trustees for Caves Springs Cemetery are Jane Whatley, Sheiby
Harris And Joe Hays. (Mr. Hays paesed away suddenly in July 1995)
