LOCKETT FAMILY CEMETERY
NEAR JEFFERSON, MARION COUNTY, TEXAS
LOCATION: 9.7 miles from intersection of Hwy 59 and 125 in Linden.
There is a sign on Hwy 59 So. for Lockett Cemetery. Turn right off
Hwy 59 So. onto Dreesen Rd., go 1.3 miles on Dreesen Rd.. The
cemetery will be right beside the road on the right. This cemetery

Royal Augustus Lockett donated the land for the Lockett Family
Cemetery. The Lockett Plantation was located in this area. In
1961, relatives of the Locketts, McAlexanders and Wards gave money
to have the cemetery fenced.
The ancestor of the descendents buried here have served in the
French, Indian and Colonial Wars; the Continental Army, in GA, KY,
NC, VA and Maryland, the War of 1812. Helped to conquer the
wilderness in KY, in the Transylvania Company, fought the Indians
in AL when it was still a part of Ms Territory. They came with
Fannin and Bullock to TX, died at Goliad & San Jacinto; carried
the Stars & Bars during the despairing days of the Confederacy;
they were in the Spanish American War, WWI & WWII and we, their
descendents should never forget what their sacrifices mean to us.
Some information was given to me by Paul Lockett & Gladys LOCKETT
Belote, descendents of Royal Lockett.
