Mt. Zion Cemetery was originally purchased for a family cemetery. It was purchased from Eva Kennedy in 1926 by Frank & Miles Oliver for their families cemetery. They purchased 3 1/2 acres. 2 1/2 acres for the cemetery and 1 acre for the Mt. Zion C.M.E. church. Prentice Oliver & Preston Williams originally formed the Mt. Zion Cemetery Association. Present overseers are grandsons of the original founders. They are: Willie Ray Williams, Willie J. Oliver and Alford Oliver. This cemetery was purchased for an Oliver-Williams family cemetery. At times they had let a few people bury there that were not related. It is filling up, so now only members of these families can be buried here.
The Mt. Zion C.M.E. Church has been torn down & will be replaced with a new one in the near future.
Information given by Mr. & Mrs. Willie F. Oliver.
