TRINITY CEMETERY
SMITHLAND, MARION COUNTY, TEXAS
LOCATION: Cemetery is about 8 miles east of Jefferson, then about
2 miles north on Hwy 49. Also from Atlanta, Texas from the
intersection of Hwy 77 & 43 south on Hwy 43 for 21.4 miles to
Smithland intersection of Hwy 43 & 49. Turn right on Hwy 49 for
5.2 miles. Turn right onto Sand Country Rd. for 1.5 miles past
Taylor cemetery for .5 mile to Trinity Cemetery.
The church and cemetery are located on 2 acres of land donated by
J. F. Kindred & wife Ardona 31-AUG-1899. Original Trustees were C.
T. Cole, J. F. Kindred & J. A. Sharp.
9In 1960, people interested in Trinity organized the Trinity
Cemetery Association. The group soon began to want to restore the
church building, for by then it was badly in need of repair. Earl
Liverman supervised the restoration project and helped with the
work. When it was completed it looked much like it had when
constructed there in 1889.
When the Trinity Cemetery Association was organized the grounds
were cleaned and a chain link fence erected around the plot.
The church building and cemetery are located in the Grange Hall
Community, about a quarter mile west of the Grange Hall School.
Regular meetings of the Trinity Cemetery Association are held
annually on Saturday before Memorial Day.
Cemetery was read 09-OCT-1998 by Irene Powell, Gerald Hammock,
Charles Steger, Kenneth & Kathryn McAlexander, Melba Tims and
Connie4Draper. Reading north to south starting in the northeast
corner
This cemetery is known to be predominantly white.
The oldest known marked grave: Row 9
