CREEKMORE CEMETERY
MARIETTA, CASS CO., TEXAS
LOCATION: From the intersection of Hwy 250 and Hwy 77, travel
west on Hwy 77 approximately 4.5 miles, turn left at Creekmore
Cemetery sign, travel .3 miles, look straight ahead and you will
see the cemetery.
Cass Co. Deed Records show that on 25-SEP-1843, Daniel Barcroft
received 320 acres of land from the State of Texas. Records show
the next owners were George W. Hass and his son Henry J. Hass, who
came to Cass Co. from NC about 1845. Henry J. Hass stated in his
will that he wished to be buried in his orchard. Although there
is no tombstone engraved, there is every reason to believe that.
Henry J. Hass, who died 30-NOV-l856, was the first person buried
here. The land has changed ownership many times, but in all
recorded deeds of Cass Co. there appears this phrase, "less,
however, a small tract of land known as the Hass Family ·
Graveyard." It became known as the Creekmore Cemetery through the
marriage of Henry's daughter and a man named Creekmore.
Cemetery was read by Shirley Lemmon on 08-JUN-1995. Cemetery was
read beginning in the northeast corner and read north to south.
Cemetery is known to be predominantly white.
The oldest marked grave; ROW 11
CARLTON Jane HASS 1837 08-OCT-l873
